About JustSpeak
JustSpeak is a people-powered movement organising and advocating for transformational change of our justice system. We work to achieve long-term systemic change by shifting public ideas about justice, and advocating for impactful resourcing towards prevention, restoration, healing, and wellbeing. Our vision is for a thriving Aotearoa with a fair and equitable justice system. We want to see a society where everyone has the resources they need to live well, supported by a justice system that is fair, equitable and transformational. This looks like universal access to healthcare, education, food, warm and dry housing, and opportunities to thrive, supported by an evidence-based justice system which centres wellbeing and restoration for all New Zealanders. JustSpeak started life in Wellington in 2011 as a youth branch of Rethinking Crime and Punishment, founded by Tā Kim Workman, becoming the primary organisation for the Robson Hanan Trust in 2015. JustSpeak is a nonpartisan organisation. We are committed to upholding the vision of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and supporting mana motuhake and Māori leadership on justice issues.
